A little girl from Hawaii, dreaming of bright lights in the big city, a stage career, movie star fame… becomes disenchanted, leaves a 30 year aspiration behind and doesn’t know what to do next…

After a two year deep dive into speciality coffee, where I was introduced to the world of tasting, day one at my first wine job arrived.

The floor was mine, but what to drink? I knew next to nothing about the bottles and myriad labels surrounding me. But I “knew” Chardonnay just wasn’t for me. The boss pops my first “Aha!” bottle: Balanced, buttery Chardonnay, complex, liquid gold in a glass.

My first thought “What is this magic?”

My second “How is this possible? Why does this taste like this? What forces converged to create such a delectable creation?”

I vowed to never assume I know anything, and always ask more questions than you can answer.

That moment initiated a lifelong journey to uncover the mystery behind the world’s great (and not-so-great) wines.

No matter how much I’ve learned, the number of questions I’ve asked, winemakers I’ve imbibed with, bottles I’ve popped— wine continues to enlighten and delight me.

After 10 years in New York’s fast-paced retail world, a Diploma from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust, my first child, an attempt at the Master of Wine program (to be continued!), a move to Copenhagen with my family, and my second child; I’ve finally launched my own project: Vin de Licorne.
